Bioenergy Haiti (BEH) receives honorable mention II in the framework of the BID-FEMSA 2020 competition

Gonaïves, Haiti - Bioenergy Haiti (BEH) received honorable mention II in the BID-FEMSA 2020 competition, organized since 2009, by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the FEMSA Foundation. The competition rewards the most innovative solutions in the water, sanitation and solid waste sectors in Latin America and the Caribbean. BEH was selected with eight (8) other finalists from over 200 applicants.

This year, two honorable mentions were awarded. The first, for companies with an operating period of between six months and two years, was awarded to the “Bathroom with reuse of gray water, Bolivia” project. The second mention, for companies whose operating time is between two and four years, was awarded to the Bioenergy Haiti project: “Waste recovery in Gonaïves, Haiti”.

Bioenergy Haiti presented its project “Waste recovery in Gonaïves” to the jury, made up of experts in the water and sanitation sector, during a final business pitch after having followed a rigorous process (in line) of coaching, presentation of videos and production of supporting documents.

“We are proud to have presented our innovative project, unique in Haiti and we thank BID-FEMSA for their welcome support” affirms Dieuseul Augustin, CEO of BEH.

“The Bioenergy Haiti model will one day be essential in the least developed countries, and the recognition of the project by BID-FEMSA is proof of this,” proudly affirms Lydie Servanin, Chairman of the Board of Bioenergy Haiti.

Who is Bioenergy Haiti (BEH)? Bioenergy Haiti (BEH) is a Haitian non-profit organization, the fruit of an international collaboration that has lasted since 2010 between representatives of Terre des jeunes Gonaïves, Biothermica Technologies Inc., Terre des jeunes Transnational, the town hall of Gonaïves and members of Haitian civil society. BEH aims for better waste management in the municipality of Gonaïves through the installation of a household waste collection system, the use of innovative biogas recovery technology and energy generation.
